Boojazz Studios Takes Photos
for the RAINN Campaign
FEBRUARY 2006 - PRESS RELEASE Jaime and Michael Foster, the husband and wife team of Boojazz Studios, recently took pictures for the National Sexual Assault Online Hotline for RAINN (Rape and Incest National Network), which will be the very first secure hotline anywhere on the web. The Online Hotline will provide live, secure and completely confidential help to victims 24 hours a day through an interface as intuitive as instant messaging.
ABOUT RAINN
Innovative partnerships allow RAINN to reach millions of Americans each month with important information about sexual assault prevention, recovery and prosecution. RAINN is a frequent resource for television, radio and print news outlets — as well as local, state and national policymakers, law enforcement and rape treatment professionals — on the issues related to rape and sexual assault. In addition, RAINN uses its extensive entertainment industry and community-based relationships to put critical information into the hands of young women and men at concerts, on campus and in communities. Through these many close partnerships, RAINN educates more than 120 million Americans each year about sexual assault. RAINN also publicizes the hotline’s free, confidential services; educates the public about sexual assault; and leads national efforts to improve services to victims and ensure that rapists are brought to justice. The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN) is the nation’s largest anti-sexual assault organization and has been ranked as one of “America’s 100 Best Charities by Worth magazine. As Michael discusses, there were many creative directions they could have chosen. “The first idea we envisioned was the idea of using rain as a symbol, having text fall from the sky while a woman shields them with an umbrella. Everything else grew from that starting point.”
Jaime added, “You have an organization that has its roots in celebrity and music, so you have to find a balance between something hip and trendy while at the same time non-offensive and meaningful. By nature those two concepts are on opposite ends of the spectrum. So you have to rely on pure creativity to get the meaning across quickly.”
Michael continued, “The images have to envoke a feeling, whether or not they are used for a billboard or a small web banner ad. The project provides a number of challenges, but with our design experience it wasn’t too difficult to overcome. The biggest challenge was to get the right expression on the models face, a blend of concern, compassion, and understanding.”
“One in six women are sexually assulted in their lifetime. Both Michael and I have known people who have been attacked, and we’ve seen the effect it can have on your life. Our work can help as a visual reminder to contact RAINN if and when something does happen. It was very rewarding to be a part of something so meaningful. The people at RAINN, like Lynn and Penelope, were so open to new ideas and were really just fantastic to work with. It was a wonderful experence.” In reponse, Lynn Parrish from RAINN added, "Jaime and Michael are two of the most creative people I've worked with in years. They’ve done an amazing job of communicating both the hope and despair facing victims of sexual assault in their photographs. We use their work on our website, myspace page, banner ads and brochures."
Two days of shooting with 10 models, then two weeks of Photoshop tweaking resulted in one hundered photos RAINN can now use for promotional purposes. This also functions as a starting point for future promotions or campaigns to help keep awareness of the organization.
Modeling for the campaign were, Roxanne Venegas, Melissa Morfin, Jan’ea Guerra, Takessa Walker, Kelly Galminias, Heather Reedy, Jaclyn Kowalczyk, Stephanie Kim, Michelle Suszynski, Jason Stevenson & Jeremy Kowalczyk.
