Growing Up Online: A Frontline PBS Special

This is a must watch for anyone working in the internet.

"FRONTLINE takes viewers inside the private worlds that kids are creating online, raising important questions about how the Internet is transforming the experience of adolescence. At school, teachers are trying to figure out how to reach a generation that no longer reads books or newspapers. Fear of online predators has led teachers and parents to focus primarily on keeping kids safe online. But many young people think these fears are misplaced. Online media has also intensified the social dimensions of adolescence as teens create and play with identities on sites like MySpace and Facebook and encounter intense peer pressure in a variety of virtual worlds. Parents are confused about how to respond to the increasingly private worlds inhabited by their children, lacking an understanding of both the creative potential and the genuine risks of this new dimension of our cultural environment."

Latest Art Projects

Working on a new series of paintings, for a show that's going to be highly conceptual. Right now I'm in the early stages of developing 10 to 12 paintings as a series, a sort of visual album. Each painting will also have a piece of music created for it, so you'll get sight and sound together as one experience. The details are a bit sketchy I know, I'm not sure if there will be a full song per painting, or just sonic noises, word art... it depends on how it all comes together. The working title for this show is "Surviving the Image."

Also, just because one can't be avant-garde enough, I'll also be developing an interactive portal / art project for Foster's Cafe this summer. Web design for the sake of web design? Perhaps. But I believe it will provide a great opportunity to explore new territory on information and how it can be presented visually on the internet. More on all of this as it develops.

Color My World- Designer Tips

How does an artist, a designer come up with color selection for a project? There are a variety of methods, many times I try to find a color scheme that's thematic with the subject I'm developing. I research a lot of color theory, and you'll be surprised just how much information there is involving colors, and how the meaning changes from culture to culture.

But what if you just want to see which colors play well together? Well, there's a site that can help you arrive at color combinations to design your next poster or paint your house. Adobe Kuler is a web-hosted application from Adobe Labs for generating color themes that can inspire any project. It's a simple site that is rather effective, and fun to play around with.
